Sayadaw U Jotika was born on August 5, 1947, into a Muslim family in Myanmar. In his youth, he was sent to study at a Christian seminary, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering and conducting extensive research in science, psychology, and Western philosophy.

He married and fathered two daughters before becoming a Theravada Buddhist monk. He spent a quarter of a century living in solitude in the deep forest, practicing meditation to free himself from mental anguish and defilements.

Sayadaw U Jotika is a highly respected and renowned meditation master, not only in Myanmar but also in many countries around the world. Despite his birth in Myanmar, he possesses a profound understanding of various cultures. He also studied Western culture extensively and lived abroad for many years. Sayadaw's sermons have been recorded and published by his disciples in many famous works, including: * Life is a Spiritual Journey, The House of Mindfulness, The Map of the Spiritual Journey, Snow in Summer* …

His wisdom and practical advice, stemming from his real-life experiences in practice, combined with his unique, simple yet profound speaking style, have been a great source of inspiration and encouragement for many generations of Buddhists and Zen practitioners on their path to enlightenment.
