Chapter 4 · Just enough effort

When thoughts arise, there is no need to chase them away. Just know that the mind is thinking. That knowing takes no side; it simply notes what is happening, and this noting without judgement is what lets the mind soften.

Just enough effort is like tuning an instrument. Too tight and the string breaks; too loose and it makes no sound. Notice how much energy you are using to be aware, then adjust it gently from moment to moment.
